Description
The Early Elementary class is designed to introduce a variety of books to young children throughout the week. (Suggested ages 6-8, prior completion of a kindergarten curriculum is recommended)
Each 50-minute class session will contain:
- a short, attention-grabbing activity
- reading time
- book discussion time
- writing time
Each class is limited to 7 students to ensure that every student gets an opportunity to participate.
This year’s book list includes the following books:
- Kumo: The Bashful Cloud
- The Unstoppable Garrett Morgan: Inventor, Entrepreneur, Hero
- Mel Fell
- The Stuff Between the Stars: How Vera Rubin Discovered Most of the Universe
- Dancing Hands: How Teresa Carreno Played the Piano for President Lincoln
You can purchase the books on your own, check them out from the library, or choose to bundle them with this course and have them shipped directly from Amazon to you.
If you have an older child (2nd or 3rd grade) who you think would really enjoy these books, you’re probably right! If your summer schedule is flexible, reach out to me via email (Alissa {at} AlissaMcClure.com) and I will help you register in the section that has older children in it. The books are excellent for all Elementary-aged students, but the conversations vary between 6-year-olds and 8 year-olds. You may also be interested in my NEW Emerging Readers Class. It was created specifically for students who are transitioning into larger texts but may not feel quite ready to read a full-length novel in a week.
**Please do not give the books to your child in advance as some of our exercises will involve making predictions before we read each story and while we are reading together.**
